The suspect was arrested in Bojong Gede, Bogor District, West Java, on Wednesday, June 25, Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Narcotics Investigation Division Head Adjunct Sen. Coms. Indra Tarigan stated.
PV was apprehended during a drug raid conducted by local police after receiving valuable tip-offs from the public about the suspect's illegal drug trade in their neighborhood area, he remarked here Wednesday.
During the raid, the officers seized 12 small packages filled with crystal meth from PV and discovered a larger crystal meth package hidden at a house in the Bojong Gede Indah housing complex, Tarigan revealed.
Tarigan noted that the total weight of the seized evidence was 1.9 kg, adding that police investigators continue to probe PV's drug case, as another suspect, identified only as OM, remains at large.
Indonesia continues to be an attractive destination for drug traffickers due to its large population and high number of users. The country’s illicit drug trade is estimated to be worth around Rp66 trillion (approximately US$4.3 billion).
Consequently, drug abuse has become a serious and life-threatening issue for millions of Indonesians.
A survey by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) estimates that 3.4 million people in Indonesia use drugs. The study found that roughly 180 out of every 10 thousand Indonesians aged 15 to 64 are affected by drug addiction.
