Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied President Prabowo Subianto at a plenary session on Sunday (July 6), highlighted that the leaders’ declaration addresses a broad array of issues of shared concern.
"The leaders' declaration sets forth a number of key points, including one related to the need to strengthen multilateralism and pursue reforms in global governance," he noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
Hartarto remarked that BRICS leaders also called for extensive efforts to build and maintain peace and international stability, as well as to deepen global cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and finance.
The minister affirmed that this call aligns seamlessly with Indonesia’s determination to broaden the market reach of its products and enhance its economic standing amid global uncertainty.
"Indonesia views BRICS as a strategic platform to navigate global uncertainty and market its products," Hartarto remarked.
He further noted that through the joint declaration, BRICS member states reiterated their commitment to addressing climate change-related issues and pushing for sustainable, fair, and inclusive development.
He underlined that BRICS countries agree clean energy transition and green development should be pursued while considering the capacities and domestic circumstances of developing nations.
Elaborating on the final key point, Hartarto noted that the declaration also underscores the importance of stronger partnerships to promote human, social, and cultural development. He emphasized that Indonesia sees such partnerships as essential for driving social transformation in BRICS countries.
The 2025 BRICS Summit, themed "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance," marks the fourth time the event has been held in Brazil and the second time it has been chaired by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
This high-level conference brought together top officials from BRICS member and partner countries. Attendees included Indonesian President Prabowo, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Egyptian PM Mostafa Madbouly, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed, and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
