President Prabowo Subianto launched the program with an initial target of establishing 80 thousand cooperatives in rural areas across Indonesia this year.
Juliantono told ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday that the program is expected to foster an enabling environment where Indonesian cooperatives can grow in membership, assets, and business reach.
The deputy minister expressed the hope that the effective implementation of the national initiative would directly drive progress in villages and help reduce poverty.
He also underlined that the government envisions village cooperatives as a strategic tool to protect rural residents from economic threats, particularly loan sharks, middlemen, and illegal online loans.
Further, he stressed that the Red and White Village Cooperatives program is not merely symbolic but a clear manifestation of the government’s determination to advance the nation.
“This program is a concrete step toward fulfilling Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which mandates the state to ensure social justice for all citizens,” he affirmed.
He then voiced confidence that village cooperatives will deliver widespread economic benefits across Indonesia.
President Prabowo is scheduled to officially launch the national cooperatives program in Klaten, Central Java, on July 19, 2025, by inaugurating around 80,500 cooperatives that have been established under the program so far.
Of the 80,500 cooperatives, more than 77 thousand have been registered as legal business entities with the Ministry of Law.
In addition, the government plans to designate over 100 cooperatives as pilot models for the program’s initial implementation phase.
Data from the Cooperatives Ministry shows that, as of 2024, a total of 131,617 cooperatives are actively operating in the country. They have 29 million members, combined assets of Rp293 trillion (US$18 billion), and their transactions are valued at Rp214 trillion (US$13 billion).
