Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government has expressed full support for the "Fathers Accompanying Children on the First Day of School" movement to strengthen parental involvement in education.

"We fully support this program as a means to strengthen parental involvement in education," Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated here on Monday.

The program is initiated by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. He explained that the movement aims to encourage greater parental participation, especially from fathers, during the transitional period when children begin a new level of education.

However, Karno noted that civil servants (ASN) who intend to accompany their children to school must apply for leave.

Regarding the leave request mechanism, he said it has been outlined in a circular issued by the Jakarta Regional Civil Service Agency (BKD).

“There is a mechanism for performance allowance deductions for ASNs who arrive late. Therefore, ASNs wishing to take their children to school should submit a leave request or use their annual leave quota,” he explained.

Rano emphasized that the provincial government supports the program through an accountable mechanism, in line with Circular No. 7 of 2025 issued by the Minister of Population and Family Development.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor and Deputy Governor’s Special Staff for Public Communication, Cyril Raoul Hakim, remarked that if an ASN is late for reasons unrelated to taking their child to school, their performance allowance will be deducted.

He further stressed that the regulation aligns with the central government's policy.

"We are not going to go against the central government (policy). In fact, the National Civil Service Agency encourages parents to accompany their children on the first day of school," he remarked.
