Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung participated in the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, the United States, Monday (July 14), to present and promote Jakarta's global city vision.

"It is important for us to actively take part in global diplomacy, as we believe Jakarta should go beyond serving as an administrative capital — it should become a global city," he noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The governor highlighted that his administration is pursuing several strategic initiatives, including the transition to clean energy, the digitization of public services, and the development of a community-based green economy.

He also stressed the importance of collaboration not only among states but also among cities worldwide to address issues of common concern, notably urbanization, climate change, and social disparities.

Pramono’s attendance at the HLPF marked a significant step in Jakarta’s paradiplomacy efforts, as he is the first Jakarta governor to receive an official invitation from the UN to play a role in shaping global strategies for sustainability.

The ongoing high-level forum presents a valuable opportunity for Jakarta to exchange perspectives on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global development challenges with state leaders, diplomats, and representatives from regional governments worldwide.

Furthermore, Pramono’s participation aligns with Jakarta's goal of emerging as a hub of cooperation and innovation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Also attending the forum, Indonesian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Arrmanatha Nasir expressed support for regional leaders participating in international events like the HLPF.

His endorsement reflects the Indonesian central government's recognition of and support for regional administrations engaging in paradiplomacy.

Held under the theme “Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive and Evidence-Based Solutions for the 2030 Agenda with No One Left Behind,” the 2025 HLPF opened on Monday and will continue through July 23.

Around 37 countries, including Indonesia, are expected to present their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on SDG implementation across various sectors and levels of government.
