“In 2025, GBN is held again (in collaboration with) YBI to reach younger generations, strengthen industry networking, and expand access to the domestic market,” Budi Setiawan, director of chemicals, textiles, and handicraft small and medium industries at the ministry, said here on Wednesday.
He emphasized that the event also aims to remind all Indonesians to continuously wear and preserve batik as a symbol of national identity.
Meanwhile, GBN 2025 organizing committee chairperson Gita Ratna Gilangkencana said the event will take place from July 30 to August 3, 2025, at Pasaraya Blok M in South Jakarta.
The event will be open to the public and aims to promote and celebrate Indonesia’s rich batik heritage across all segments of society.
“GBN 2025 invites the public to see batik not just as a cultural legacy, but also as a vibrant and meaningful part of today’s lifestyle, which is worthy of preservation,” she said.

To target younger audiences, the biennial event is returning this year with a concept that will blend traditional values with modern elements through interactive, immersive, and inclusive performances and exhibitions.
This year, GBN 2025 will highlight Batik Merawit from Cirebon, a traditional batik technique known for its fine-lined patterns that require exceptional attention to detail.
This heritage technique received official recognition through a Geographical Indication (IndiGeo) on November 4, 2024.
“This reflects our commitment not only to celebrating heritage, but also to supporting the legitimacy and global recognition of batik as part of our future,” Gilangkencana said.
In the first quarter of 2025, Indonesia’s batik industry recorded exports worth US$7.63 million, with major destinations including Japan, the United States, and several European countries.
