Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said on Thursday that resolving long-standing land rights issues for transmigrants remains a top priority for his ministry.
"The Ministry of Transmigration has many tasks to complete, even if they stem from past programs. We don't view them as a burden, but as a moral responsibility," he stated.
He noted that hundreds of thousands of plots are experiencing overlapping claims, largely due to changes in land status, particularly areas that were later designated as forest zones after transmigrants had already settled there.
Suryanagara cited the 1999 transmigration program in Luwu, South Sulawesi, which sparked land disputes two decades later.
He said he is in communication with Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni to address the overlapping land issue, and is also coordinating closely with Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid on issuing land certificates.
Suryanagara added that other transmigration areas, such as Melolo in East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, are also being prepared for certification.
