In a statement from his office, the governor noted that Bali and Japan have long maintained ties in these two crucial sectors.
“We hold high regard for Japanese tourists who respect local cultures and rules,” Koster stated.
He highlighted that the high number of Japanese citizens visiting Bali for recreation is on par with that of Balinese youths studying, working, and enrolling in apprenticeship programs in Japan.
“We believe our solid, enduring cooperation is based on the fact that the people of Bali and Japan share many cultural similarities,” he highlighted.
The governor also expressed his eagerness to expand collaboration into agriculture, renewable energy, waste management, and infrastructure development.
“Most agricultural experts from Bali are graduates of Japanese universities, which reflects our recognition of Japan’s high-level prowess in the agriculture sector. We are ready to tap into the cooperation potential with the Japanese Consulate General here,” he emphasized.
Vice-Minister Ikuina, for her part, expressed delight over the opportunity to directly exchange views on cooperation opportunities with the governor.
Acknowledging Indonesia as Japan’s long-time partner, she emphasized that her government is committed to solidifying bilateral ties, including in tourism, culture, the environment, the economy, and human resources development.
She also highlighted that Bali’s cultural and tourism appeal had drawn several Japanese citizens to visit and reside in the province — a testament to the Bali government’s efforts to provide a safe and comfortable living environment.
The Japanese envoy noted that the number of Indonesian nationals residing in Japan had tripled in the last five years, reaching roughly 200 thousand, with 6,778 of them being students.
Furthermore, Ikuina supported the governor’s push to conduct joint human resources development initiatives, especially in the agriculture sector.
