Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration has announced plans to establish Transmigrant-Owned Enterprises (BUMT), which are community-based economic entities centered on land as the core asset, with transmigrants as the majority shareholders.

“Transmigration must once again serve as a strategic bridge between capital and the people's needs, between growth and equity, and between land ownership and sustainable productivity,” Transmigration Minister Iftitah Sulaiman stated during a press conference at the National Technical Working Meeting on Transmigration in Denpasar on Monday.

According to Sulaiman, BUMT aims to ensure transmigrants are not just workers but also majority shareholders and equal partners with the private sector, gaining access to value chains from upstream to downstream.

The minister also emphasized that BUMT's establishment will be supported by a strong legal framework to guarantee protection and benefits for transmigrants.

As an illustration, Sulaiman explained that land provided to transmigrants will no longer be allocated as individual private property. Instead, it will be collectively owned and managed as part of BUMT’s assets.

Only residential units or plots allocated for housing construction will be granted as private individual property.

“For instance, if a business entity requires 10 thousand hectares of land, that entire area will be collectively owned by transmigrants and become an asset under BUMT,” he remarked.

Under this new scheme, transmigrants will no longer receive land ownership certificates for productive plots but will instead receive shares in the enterprise.

“These enterprises will be led by dedicated transmigrant patriots, highly qualified human resources, including master's and doctoral graduates from Indonesia's top universities,” Sulaiman added.

Meanwhile, supervision and oversight through the board of commissioners will involve local government representatives, while overall management will remain under the Ministry of Transmigration.
