Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Manpower and the National Alms Agency (Baznas) have emphasized the importance of inclusive worker recruitment, particularly to ensure people with disabilities have access to employment.

“Workforce recruitment must be inclusive, without discrimination,” Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

The measures taken to push inclusive hiring practices have included the signing of a joint commitment by Baznas, the South Sulawesi provincial government, and 22 companies in Sulawesi.

According to Yassierli, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed as a part of the enforcement of Article 53 of Law Number 8 of 2016 regarding Persons with Disabilities.

The minister emphasized that the government is continuing to promote an inclusive workforce recruitment system, especially for people with disabilities. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of collaboration to create equal employment opportunities.

As a concrete effort, the ministry has established a Directorate for Placement of Special Workers and Persons with Disabilities, which will coordinate the implementation of training, certification, as well as job placement programs.

“We have formed a Directorate for Placement of Special Workers and Persons with Disabilities, and this was part of labor reform, so that everyone has equal rights,” he said.

Due to the lack of adequate job skills, workers with disabilities find it hard to get hired, he noted, adding that they must first be provided training to improve their competencies.

“To support vocational training, Baznas will facilitate the funding for skills training activities for prospective workers with disabilities. Those who pass will be placed at companies that have already committed,” he said.

Meanwhile, head of distribution and empowerment at Baznas, Saidah Sakwan, said that the collaboration with the ministry is concrete evidence of institutional synergy for improving community welfare.

“One of them is providing assistance to one thousand people with disabilities,” she added.
