Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Nezar Patria explained that the report is the outcome of a bilateral memorandum of understanding on digital transformation signed by both countries.
"The Komdigi Ministry is committed to using this dialogue's results as a foundation for formulating concrete and progressive AI policy recommendations that align with national interests," he remarked at his office in Jakarta on Monday.
He further elaborated that the report summarizes key points discussed during intensive sessions involving cross-sector stakeholders, including industry players, academics, government officials, and community representatives.
According to Patria, the dialogue report serves as a reference to identify basic needs, challenges, and implications of AI use in six key areas: digital services, digital infrastructure, data management, digital talent, digital ecosystems, and ethics and inclusivity.
The deputy minister noted that the dialogue also focused on strengthening the Indonesian government’s role in connecting relevant stakeholders and leading AI development and use in the country.
This initiative supports the drafting of the National Road Map for AI and a presidential regulation governing the use of the cutting-edge technology, he added.
He remarked that the initial draft of the regulation is expected to be ready by the end of this month and will be opened for a public consultation in August before undergoing a review by the Law Ministry and the State Secretariat in September.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the Komdigi Ministry is working on a similar legal instrument to ensure the safe use and innovation of AI.
