Patria underlined that to fully harness the potential of AI and data, expanding digital connectivity to village areas is essential, as it serves as the foundation for building a modern, sustainable, and self-reliant agricultural system.
“To truly utilize the power of AI and data, strong digital infrastructure is vital, including equitable broadband access and inclusive digital platforms for farmers and agri-food entrepreneurs,” he noted in a press statement here on Monday.
Patria conveyed this statement during an online seminar held in collaboration with the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Jakarta on Monday (July 28).
He drew attention to major challenges currently facing the agricultural sector, ranging from climate change to the low regeneration of young farmers.
The deputy minister stressed that digital transformation is not merely a trend but a necessity to address urgent issues in today’s agricultural sector.
He cited examples of how technologies such as smart sensors, drones, automation, and predictive analytics can enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen the supply chain from upstream to downstream.
“AI and data can revolutionize our entire agri-food ecosystem,” he asserted.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is currently accelerating the development of digital infrastructure in rural areas, promoting data literacy, and partnering with universities such as UGM for research, training, and the development of technology-based agricultural solutions.
Hence, Deputy Minister Patria urged all stakeholders, especially academics and farmers, to work together to strengthen national food sovereignty.
“This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's vision of food self-sufficiency. AI and data serve as a bridge to a more productive, inclusive, and sustainable future for Indonesian agriculture,” he stated.
