Natuna, Riau Islands Province (ANTARA) - The district government of Natuna, Riau Islands province, has formed a task force to speed up the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and support its smooth implementation in the region.

Natuna district secretary Boy Wijanarko said in Natuna on Tuesday that the task force was formed as a follow-up to a circular letter issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the acceleration of the MBG program in the region.

“The formation of this task force is based on the direction of the central government, specifically through the circular letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs, for local governments to play an active role in accelerating the implementation of the MBG program,” he informed.

He added that the task force will support the MBG program’s implementation in various ways.

The task force’s main duties will include assisting the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in mapping suitable locations for kitchens or nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG), providing beneficiary data, ensuring the availability and affordability of food supplies, and supporting the smooth operation of the logistics supply chain.

In addition, it will help monitor the safety and quality of food served to beneficiaries.

The decree for the formation of the task force has been completed and is currently in the process of being finalized by the legal section of the Natuna Regional Secretariat.

“We have drafted the decree, and it is currently being processed. It will be ratified soon,” he said.

The members of the task force have been drawn from different sectors, including work units within the Natuna district government, the Indonesian Nutritionists Association, and community organizations such as the Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK) movement.

The task force is chaired by the Natuna Regional Secretary, with the Regent acting as the supervisor and the Deputy Regent as the director.

He expressed the hope that the formation of the task force would improve coordination in the program’s implementation in Natuna and bring about tangible improvements in the nutrition status of children in the border area.

“Currently, there is only a public kitchen, SPPG, in Natuna that produces nutritious food. Several more kitchens will be established in the future,” he said.
