"Fundamental knowledge is essential amid the very high speed of computation. Scientific culture is very important," he said in a statement here on Sunday.
According to him, the mastery of fundamental knowledge can be achieved by developing a scientific culture at universities, which can then be extended to the general public.
To this end, he pushes for the active role of universities in strengthening the mastery of fundamental knowledge to support Indonesia's target of becoming a developed country by 2045.
"Education is the main foundation for knowledge-based economic growth. To achieve the developed country status, Indonesia needs to reach an eight percent economic growth rate per year," he remarked.

The minister also called for optimal services to be provided by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the Higher Education Service Institute (LLDikti), and regional governments to lecturers, students, and institutions.
This is deemed able to boost the increase in the gross enrollment ratio for higher education from 32 percent to 38 percent.
"We want to increase the number of students. Indonesia usually sees a 0.5 percent increase in university students every year. However, we are currently seeking to raise the increase to one percent per year," he remarked.
He invited all universities to change their service perspective from judgmental to continuous improvement.
With reforms in approach and improvement of higher education services, Yuliarto hoped that all universities in Indonesia could focus on improving their quality and innovation sustainably.
