Biak (ANTARA) - The Papua Provincial Government has sent five specialist doctors to Biak Public Hospital (RSUD Biak) to help improve the quality of its healthcare services.

"The healthcare assistance package involving five specialists at RSUD Biak is ongoing," Director of Jayapura Public Hospital Aaron Rumainum said in Biak on Sunday.

The five specialists include an internal medicine, kidney consultant, and hypertension specialist, he said, adding that additional specialists assigned to RSUD Biak include an ophthalmologist and an oncological surgeon.

"Meanwhile, two doctors from RSUD Jayapura are also supporting RSUD Biak: an orthopedic specialist and a urologist," said Aaron, who previously served as head of the Supiori District Health Office.

The specialist doctors' presence at the hospital would hopefully improve the quality of medical services for locals in need, he said.

Moreover, he noted that RSUD Biak serves as a referral hospital for the Saereri customary region in Papua Province, which includes the districts of Supiori, Yapen Islands, and Waropen.

"We hope the assistance from RSUD Jayapura specialists will expand healthcare services for residents of Biak Numfor and nearby areas," Aaron added.

RSUD Biak is currently undergoing a status upgrade from type C to type B and is managed by the Biak Numfor District Government.

The hospital’s emergency room operates around the clock, serving inpatients from Supiori, Yapen Islands, Waropen, and even Manokwari District in West Papua.
