After the meeting, PGI Chairperson, Pastor Jacky Manuputty, said intolerance remains a concern, emphasizing the need for all parties to uphold tolerance and unity in society.
“We discussed the issue of intolerance and several recent incidents. We share a common concern about maintaining national unity. Cases of intolerance must be addressed optimally, both from legal and legislative aspects,” Manuputty remarked here on Monday.
He revealed that the discussion with VP Gibran also touched on the need to strengthen the role of religious organizations and faith-based youth groups to prevent the spread of intolerance in communities.
“We talked about fostering cultural engagement. Each party must have its role, the government in terms of law and legislation, while religious and cultural institutions must maintain harmony and support victims,” he stated.
Another topic raised during the meeting was the limited availability of religious education teachers in several regions, which often leads to misunderstandings and conflict among community groups.
According to Manuputty, VP Gibran has vowed to advocate for policies to resolve the issue at both the central and regional levels.
“The vice president promised to seriously discuss how both central and local governments can address this,” he stated.
He also praised VP Gibran’s commitment to preventing intolerance and promoting religious tolerance in society.
“According to him, not all regions can have the same approach, but we must be working together to resolve such issues,” Manuputty remarked.
He also expressed hope that the results of the discussion with VP Gibran will be followed by concrete actions.
