Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Primary and Secondary Education Ministry has urged non-civil servant teachers receiving government incentives to enroll for Teacher Professional Education (PPG) to improve their welfare.

The ministry’s secretary general, Suharti, said here on Wednesday that incentives have been disbursed to at least 341.248 million eligible non-civil servant teachers this year.

“(Recipients) have met the criteria for sure, including having at least bachelor or applied bachelor degrees, but (they) do not have professional certification yet,” she elaborated.

The incentives amount to Rp2.1 million (US$128), which will be disbursed in tranches of Rp300 thousand (US$19) from August 2025 for seven months. The transfers will go directly to the recipients’ bank accounts.

Suharti said she expects the teachers to opt for PPG, given that her ministry has allocated funding for 808,570 teachers to help them join the program.

“We hope that incentive recipients can immediately participate in PPG, so they are further eligible for more professional allowance. There’s even a special allowance for those who teach in particular regions,” she noted.

To date, the Primary and Secondary Education Ministry has disbursed Rp716 billion (around US$45.3 million) in aid, or more than 85 percent of the allocated amount.

To commemorate Independence Day, President Prabowo Subianto has also announced a subsidy assistance and learning program for teachers.

The wage subsidy assistance (BSU) of Rp300 thousand will be provided for two months to non-formal early childhood education (PAUD) teachers. It will be sent directly to their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program at 112 universities aims to help 12,500 teachers upgrade their academic qualifications to a bachelor’s and an applied bachelor’s degree.

The ministry expects the initiatives to improve teachers’ performance and help them deliver quality education and learning experiences to students.
