“The development of Indonesia’s tourism must prioritize competitive sustainable tourism that offers unique experiences and high value,” Ni Luh said in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday.
Speaking at the Karya Kreatif Indonesia 2025 talkshow titled “Next-Gen Tourism: Smart Competition, Great Development, Sustainability” held in Jakarta on Thursday (August 7), Ni Luh noted that the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) mandates the development of quality and environmentally sustainable tourism.
This approach is expected to attract a greater number of high-quality visitors, both international and domestic tourists.
Especially after the official end of the COVID-19 pandemic status, sustainable tourism has become the top choice for global travelers. In response to this trend, the Ministry of Tourism has launched the Clean Tourism Movement (Gerakan Wisata Bersih, GWB).
The program is designed to create clean destinations while strengthening tourism sustainability.
“The Clean Tourism Movement is a movement encouraging everyone to care about cleanliness. This issue is not only the responsibility of the central and regional governments but also involves the community and tourists,” she said.
Ni Luh added that tourism serves as the country’s showcase. Clean, sustainability managed destinations provide positive experiences for visitors, ultimately enhancing Indonesia’s image on the global stage.
Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Destry Damayanti, urged all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in realizing sustainable tourism in Indonesia.
“Let us work together and synergize so that our tourism sector, especially targeting Next Gen Travelers, can truly be a host in our own country,” Destry said.
At the event, Deputy Minister Ni Luh was accompanied by Deputy Assistant for Strategic Management at the Ministry of Tourism, I Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani, and Deputy Assistant for Tourism Marketing Strategy and Communication, Firnandi Gufron. Also present was Deputy Chairperson of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo.
