Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, voiced her support for expanding Indonesia's cooperation with Peru during the visit of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte here on Monday.

"DPR will always back the efforts of Indonesia's president to develop and broaden international cooperation, including with Peru, within all international collaborations aimed at benefiting the people," Maharani told the press after the meeting.

She assessed that Indonesia's partnerships with various countries, including Peru, will be highly relevant and significant amid the current global uncertainties.

"We must build cooperation with countries that prioritize multilateralism and international cooperation and reject unilateralism," she stated.

According to Maharani, Peru is a key Latin American partner for Indonesia as both countries share similarities, such as extensive coastlines, rich cultural heritage, and abundant natural resources.

As a representative of women in politics, Maharani also shared that during her meeting with the president of Peru, they discussed the importance of supporting women's leadership in policymaking.

"As fellow women leaders, we must support female leaders in our respective countries to lead," she affirmed.

Maharani also reiterated her support for the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IP-CEPA), signed during a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Boluarte at the Merdeka Palace.

"Hopefully, with the signing of the IP-CEPA agreement, trade between Indonesia and Peru will increase and proceed more smoothly," she remarked.

During the bilateral meeting, agricultural cooperation was also on the agenda.

"The president of Peru expressed interest in exporting Peruvian agricultural products to Indonesia," she explained.

Furthermore, Maharani underscored opportunities for stronger tourism collaboration, noting that both countries are home to UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

"(It is) because Peru has Machu Picchu, and Indonesia has Borobudur. Tourism is certainly one sector we aim to enhance," she affirmed.
