Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the government is continuing to improve the management and distribution system for subsidized fertilizer to ensure it reaches eligible farmers more effectively.

"We want farmers to no longer face difficulties in accessing fertilizer. The new system is simpler, under strict supervision, and is expected to boost agricultural productivity while strengthening Indonesia’s food security," Amran noted in a statement on Wednesday.

Director General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities at the Ministry of Agriculture Andi Nur Alam Syah confirmed that the current fertilizer distribution system is being implemented in accordance with a Presidential Regulation.

"We are managing fertilizer distribution in line with the Presidential Regulation and remain in constant coordination with PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company (PIHC) to carry out ongoing improvements," Andi remarked.

He emphasized that intensive coordination with PIHC aims to ensure fertilizer is delivered on time, in the right quantities, and to the right beneficiaries.

Andi also underlined the vital role of local governments in overseeing distribution efforts.

“Regional governments, through local agricultural offices and extension workers, play an important role in supervising the distribution. If absorption is low in certain areas, reallocation can be made between sub-districts, regencies, or even provinces to ensure supplies are utilized elsewhere. We must not allow food security to be compromised," he remarked.

The Agriculture Ministry is also working closely with Commission IV of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to monitor the implementation of the subsidized fertilizer program.

Deputy Chair of Commission IV Panggah Susanto affirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring the smooth and sustainable implementation of the new distribution policy.

"If it used to be complicated, now, God willing, it will run smoothly," Panggah stated.

He noted that the new system is simpler, more efficient, and better targeted, with the Ministry of Agriculture and PIHC now serving as the two main agencies responsible for fertilizer distribution.

“Commission IV remains highly focused on ensuring this policy continues to support the agriculture, plantation, and fisheries sectors," Panggah remarked.
