“We are deploying around seven thousand personnel, including reserve units,” head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, said during a briefing at the Metro Jaya meeting hall on Thursday.
He informed that the personnel will secure a series of events scheduled between August 15 and 17, 2025.
“This includes activities at key locations, along procession routes, including the VVIP and guest route, as well as public festivities at Monas, Thamrin, Sudirman, and the Presidential Palace,” he said.
He also emphasized that the National Police Headquarters and Metro Jaya Police are fully prepared to carry out Operasi Merdeka Jaya, the security operation for the Independence Day celebrations.
He has also prepared traffic engineering plans for the festivities at Merdeka Palace.
“It is anticipated that there will be a large public turnout, which means increased community movement. If necessary, traffic flow adjustments will be made, and traffic management plans are already well-prepared,” Suryonugroho added.
Meanwhile, head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hasan Nasbi, said that the people’s celebrations on the 80th Independence anniversary will be festive, with lots of surprises planned for visitors.
“There will be a very lively celebration, with many surprises there later,” he added at a press conference at the PCO office in Jakarta on Thursday.
The festivities will take place around Merdeka Palace and the National Monument (Monas) area.
Hasan informed that the main event will be held on August 17, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. WIB and will continue from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. WIB.
The public celebration will include competitions, entertainment stages, free culinary offerings from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and a fireworks show in the evening.
Hasan said that the celebration will be further enlivened by the United Independence Carnival on Sunday night, which will see participation from various ministries and government institutions.
