Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani said President Prabowo Subianto has delivered on Indonesia’s economic democracy as mandated by Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.

“Under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, the implementation of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution is not just a promise, but a commitment to revive the spirit of our Constitution,” Muzani stated in his opening speech at the 2025 MPR Annual Session on Friday.

He emphasized that Indonesia is a wealthy nation, but a great nation will not allow that wealth to be enjoyed by only a few. Muzani said this principle is being realized under Prabowo’s administration.

“By prioritizing economic independence and managing natural resources for the national interest, the government is working to fulfill the mandate of Article 33,” he said.

Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution governs the national economy. Paragraph 3 states that land, waters, and natural resources are to be controlled by the state and utilized for the greatest benefit of the people.

Paragraph 4 stipulates that the national economy shall be organized based on economic democracy, guided by the principles of togetherness, fair efficiency, sustainability, environmental awareness, independence, and a balanced advancement of progress and national economic unity.

To mark the approach of Indonesia’s Independence Day, the Parliament convened the 2025 MPR Annual Session together with the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Nusantara Building in the Parliamentary Complex on Friday.

This year’s session carried the theme "United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, and Advanced Indonesia"
