Commander of the Military District Command 1801/Manokwari Colonel Agus Prihanto Donny said the program is supported by nine kitchens established or supervised by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
“The nine MBG kitchens have supplied nutritious meals to 99 schools located in Manokwari’s urban area,” he told the media in Manokwari on Saturday.
He noted that while the program has run smoothly in line with BGN’s portion and nutritional standards, the kitchens do not provide cutlery, requiring schools to pay greater attention to hygiene.
“Since the program has only been running for several months, we still find shortcomings here and there -- it is still imperfect. We will therefore continue to evaluate and improve its implementation in collaboration with the National Nutrition Agency,” Donny said.
He added that Manokwari is expected to have a new MBG kitchen this month to expand the program’s reach to areas outside the urban zone, with BGN currently assessing its feasibility.
“So far, the coverage of the MBG kitchens is still limited to the urban area. It is crucial to expand their reach to uncovered sub-districts such as Warmare, Prafi, Masni, Sidey, North Manokwari, and South Manokwari (now Moy Boray) to make it fair,” he pointed out.
Without specifying details, Donny said one MBG kitchen had received a stern warning after failing twice to meet quality and safety standards, which led to alleged food poisoning.
“The kitchen may face closure if it repeats the same mistake a third time,” he stressed.
