Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said the area has the potential to serve as a model for integrated development, provided it receives adequate support through technology, innovation, and public-private partnerships.
"I am very pleased to be here with the Minister of Transmigration to directly observe the progress of the Melolo Transmigration Zone, which we hope will continue to grow," Yudhoyono said during a site visit.
He noted that local residents face significant difficulties accessing a nearby sugar mill due to challenging terrain, but emphasized that the region also holds vast potential that must be tapped with the right strategies.

According to Yudhoyono, the sugar mill — one of the largest in NTT — plays a critical role in driving economic activity in both the transmigration zone and surrounding areas.
"When we talk about economic growth and job creation, the government cannot do it alone. Central and regional governments must work together with all stakeholders, particularly the private sector," he said.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to better integrate industrial activity within the transmigration area, noting that one of the key strengths of transmigration zones is the availability of land and a ready workforce — assets essential for production.
In return, industry contributes capital, technology, and serves as a reliable buyer for goods produced in the region.
"Reducing inequality means creating decent, sustainable jobs for our people," he added.
