According to Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Fauzan, the DPT is a "strategic and participatory platform" designed to ensure the community is actively and sustainably involved in shaping national higher education policies.
Launched on Wednesday, the council was formed via ministerial decrees to spearhead a transformation in higher education, science, and technology.
This initiative aims to encourage universities to extend their focus beyond traditional education and research, directing their efforts toward directly benefiting the community and national development.
Director General of Higher Education, Khairul Munadi, emphasized that the DPT will act as a strategic partner to the ministry.
He noted that the council, which includes educational experts like former Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, will oversee improvements in the quality, access, relevance, and community impact of higher education.
Munadi explained that this paradigm shift moves beyond traditional academic functions.
He believes that with the support of science and technology in creating solutions, university graduates will become "agents of change" who contribute to economic growth, socio-ecological development, and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
