Based on Law Number 2 of 2021, which is translated into a regional regulation, Indigenous Papuans must make up 80 percent of the total workforce.
"The affirmative policy on Indigenous Papuan workers is outlined in the West Papua Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2022," he said here on Saturday.
He expressed hope that regional governments and companies can collaborate in preparing an Indigenous Papuan workforce that is competent and can compete at all levels.
It is deemed essential for large-scale companies to open fair recruitment and consistently place Indigenous Papuans in their organizational structure in accordance with their own competencies.
"This is a mutual program for the community's welfare and meeting the needs of industries by prioritizing the local workforce," he remarked.
According to him, every natural resources management project in West Papua must contribute to regional development as well as reducing unemployment, as regulated in the regional regulation.
"If the Indigenous Papuan workforce is not employed, the unemployment rate will be high, extreme poverty and stunting will remain a threat to future generations," he said.
Furthermore, Wamafma also underlined the need to ensure that the recruitment process in companies investing in West Papua is free from job brokerage activities.
