Jakarta (ANTARA) - The World Trade Organization (WTO) panel issued a ruling supporting Indonesia's position on several key claims in the dispute over the European Union's imposition of countervailing duties on Indonesian biodiesel imports.

"The Indonesian government is committed to continuing to monitor the decision with a solution-oriented approach, prioritizing international collaboration, while simultaneously championing national interests in the global trade arena," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said here on Saturday.

In its ruling, the WTO panel recommended that the European Union align its policies with its obligations under the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (SCM Agreement).

The decision affirms Indonesia's position in fighting for fair market access for its leading national products, particularly palm oil and biodiesel.

"As a consequence of the WTO panel's decision, the European Union certainly needs to revoke the dumping duties imposed. Now Indonesia is just waiting to see how the European Union responds to the decision," Hartarto said.

Hartarto said that the government will prepare the necessary implementation steps in a measured manner so that the WTO decision can have a real impact on strengthening Indonesia's export commodities.

He said the decision will also be a catalyst for the development of biodiesel as one of the nation's flagship products in the global market.

The dispute was filed in 2023 after the European Union imposed import duties on biodiesel products from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, which were deemed inconsistent with WTO rules.

Furthermore, through its Panel Report on January 10, 2025, the WTO ruled that the European Union had discriminated against Indonesia by treating palm oil and biofuel unfairly and detrimentally.
