We only have one hope: improvements in the management of of Hajj,Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi expressed the government’s hope that the ongoing revision of Law No. 8 of 2009 on Hajj and Umrah would improve the organization of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Over the past several days, Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) has held intensive discussions to finalize the Hajj Bill, which is expected to be passed during a parliamentary plenary session in Jakarta on Tuesday (August 26).
"We only have one hope: improvements in the management of of Hajj," he told reporters when asked about the bill during a running event in Jakarta on Sunday.
Hadi, who also serves as President Prabowo Subianto’s spokesperson, refrained from commenting further on the legislative process. He simply said, "The draft law is being finalized by the DPR."
On Saturday (August 23), DPR’s Commission VIII convened a 20-minute open meeting with the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) to gather input on the revision, followed by a closed-door hearing with the government.

Among the key points raised in the deliberations is the proposal to transform the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji) into a Ministry of Hajj and Umrah—a plan confirmed by Minister Hadi, BP Haji Head Mochammad Irfan Yusuf, and Commission VIII Chairman Marwan Dasopang.
The change in nomenclature forms part of President Prabowo’s broader plan to transfer the management of Hajj and Umrah from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to BP Haji beginning next year.
In addition to the institutional shift, lawmakers and the government have also discussed the possibility of allowing non-Muslims to serve as Hajj officers, particularly to address staffing shortages in regions of Indonesia with a non-Muslim majority.
Another significant proposal is to shift the authority to determine Hajj quotas at the district and municipal levels from governors to the minister of Hajj.
