Banjarnegara (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) affirmed the central government's commitment to improving infrastructure in the Dieng Plateau, Central Java, to advance the tourism sector and strengthen the economy.

During a visit to the Arjuna Temple Complex in Dieng Kulon Village, Banjarnegara District, on Sunday, he underscored that proper connectivity and accessibility are essential for developing tourism sites and attracting more visitors.

He raised the issue based on his observation of the roads he traveled from Wonosobo District to reach Dieng, which he described as narrow and prone to congestion.

With that in mind, the minister emphasized that his office would coordinate with relevant technical ministries to devise concrete measures to enhance the quality and adequacy of key connectivity infrastructure in the region.

"Developing infrastructure in this region is intended not only to strengthen tourism but also to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises, boost the creative economy, and create job opportunities," AHY explained.

Meanwhile, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi noted that infrastructure development, including in Dieng, had been designated as a priority in his government's Regional Medium-Term Development Plan.

Describing Dieng as Central Java's tourism agglomeration region, he highlighted the importance of building infrastructure that links it with other destinations.

"We have prepared a budget to connect Dieng to other tourism areas," the governor remarked.

Separately, Banjarnegara District Head Amalia Desiana stated that her administration had submitted two proposals to the governor to boost tourism in Dieng, including the construction of a road linking Batang District to the plateau via Purwajiwa Village.

According to her, the new road could reduce travel time to Dieng for tourists coming from the north.

She also stressed the need to improve the quality and safety of the Sikiler uphill road, which she deemed vulnerable to accidents.

"Expanding accessibility and improving roads can make it easier for various modes of transportation to reach Banjarnegara," Desiana added.
