Head of the West Papua Forestry Service, Jimmy Walter Susanto, said on Monday that once completed, the activity proposal will be submitted to the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH).
He explained that the draft concept must cover seven types of activities to be implemented by the appointed intermediary institution, the Samdhana Institute. These include strengthening forest management units, the climate village program, forest and land rehabilitation, sustainable forest management, and forest fire prevention and management.
"In addition, we will develop a design for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) related to carbon," Susanto said.
The draft also incorporates the strategic and annual work plans of the West Papua Forestry Service and the Environment and Land Service (DLHP) to avoid duplication of activities already funded by the province’s 2025 regional budget (APBD).
"This ensures that activities not included in the APBD can instead be financed through the RBP grant," he explained.
Susanto underlined that the distribution of the climate grant will not pass through regional coffers but will directly fund activities carried out by the Samdhana Institute.
All proposed programs have received approval from the BPDLH, while Samdhana’s appointment as implementing partner reflects its proven track record.
"Samdhana Institute has conducted conservation work in Teluk Bintuni District and several other areas in Papua," he said, adding that the organization also presented its activities to West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan on August 13.
