In response to public concerns here Monday, Latipulhayat said the policy is often misunderstood as an expansion of academic content, when in fact it aims to deepen understanding rather than widen the curriculum.
"This is not about adding more content but about focusing on depth," he said during a podcast on the dissemination of information for the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education's Regulation Number 13 of 2025.
Teachers are encouraged to explore topics with greater flexibility and connect lessons to real-life contexts.

"The key is depth. This method gives teachers room to explore and students a chance to grasp the real-world relevance of what they learn," he said.
Students will benefit from more meaningful learning, shifting focus from content quantity to content comprehension, he said while emphasizing that the approach will not burden students.
The government has issued the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education's Regulation Number 13 of 2025 on Curriculum for Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, which came into effect on July 15, 2025.
The regulation promotes a deep learning approach, which focuses on a comprehensive understanding of concepts, development of critical thinking, and reflection in learning.
