..cooperation between the government and business entities is the best scheme,Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that the planned Giant Sea Wall project will be funded through a combination of government and private sector investment.
“It is a combination; cooperation between the government and business entities is the best scheme,” he told the press at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday.
Regarding the exact funding proportion between the government and business entities, he said the matter will be discussed further.
As the minister overseeing infrastructure, AHY will serve on the steering committee of the newly established Java North Coast (Pantura) Management Authority to ensure that coastal management, including the Giant Sea Wall project, proceeds effectively.
In this role, he will provide input and coordinate with the authority to take concrete steps for the development of the Giant Sea Wall and the protection of Java’s northern coastline.
Beyond the sea wall project, AHY also emphasized his ministry’s support for other government priorities, such as improving irrigation systems to strengthen food security and repairing regional roads to accelerate logistics distribution.
On the same day, President Prabowo Subianto appointed Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Didit Herdiawan Ashaf as the head of the Pantura Management Authority.
The Giant Sea Wall project, first proposed in 1995, is expected to cost up to US$80 billion and extend 500 kilometers from Banten to East Java, with an estimated completion timeline of 20 years.
