Abdul Muhari, head of BNPB's Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center, said on Tuesday that the pumps are expected to accelerate firefighting operations on mineral land in the district.
BNPB reported that joint teams in the field are facing several challenges, including limited water sources, impassable roads for four-wheeled vehicles, and shifting wind directions that continue to spread the flames.
“Currently, some of the hotspots have been extinguished. The joint team remains on site to continue firefighting and cooling operations to prevent the fire from spreading further,” Muhari said.
At least 5 hectares of land have been burned, according to BNPB. No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by local police.
Muhari urged the public to avoid activities that could trigger fires in vulnerable areas, warning that dry weather conditions continue to heighten wildfire risks.
BNPB said it will continue coordinating with the Nagan Raya Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the military, and the police to maximize mitigation and firefighting efforts.
