Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta’s open unemployment rate (TPT) fell to 6.18 percent in the first half of 2025, Governor Pramono Anung said on Wednesday, noting a slight improvement compared to the same period last year.

“Unemployment in Jakarta is currently at 6.18 percent, a decrease compared to the same month last year. The decrease is small, but there is still improvement,” Pramono said though he did not provide last year's figure.

Speaking at Jakarta City Hall, he said the city government has launched various job creation programs, including skills-based training aimed at preparing workers for domestic and international markets.

“We are currently relying on regular training, with 147 classes running. In addition, we also have a mobile training unit focusing on language training,” he said.

Pramono emphasized that foreign language skills are a critical asset for Jakartans seeking work abroad, where limited proficiency has often been a barrier.

“Therefore, we will direct our mobile training units toward language training to support Jakartans in facing the global job market,” he said.

The administration has also held 13 job fairs so far this year, with plans to hold 21 in total by December.

A total of 1,367 people have secured jobs through the fairs to date, Pramono said.

He added that the city is committed to addressing unemployment and social inequality, citing Jakarta’s Gini ratio as a major challenge.

To support vulnerable groups, the provincial government has rolled out several social protection programs, including the Jakarta Child Card, Elderly Card, Disability Card, Child Card Plus, Student Card (KJMU), and a subsidized food program.

The open unemployment rate represents the percentage of jobless individuals within the total labor force.
