Deputy for Micro Enterprises Riza Damanik stated here, Friday, that the initiative in Maros District aims to optimize the fisheries sector through ecosystem-based business mentoring—from upstream production to downstream distribution.
“This includes strengthening legality, capacity building, financing, market access, and partnerships between MSME suppliers and Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs),” Riza said during a visit to Maros, South Sulawesi.
He emphasized the strategic role of fisheries in meeting nutritional needs and boosting the local economy. According to 2023 data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Maros produces over 9,100 tons of milkfish annually.
“At this site alone, a 2,500-square-meter pond yields 1,500 to 3,500 fish per harvest,” he noted while inspecting a boneless milkfish facility operated by local MSME Marlo Jaya.
Given these figures, Riza said Maros has strong potential to contribute more significantly to the MBG ecosystem.
“The Minister often says MSME incomes will be more secure and businesses will grow once the MBG ecosystem is fully established,” he added.
Maros is targeted to host 41 to 48 SPPGs, serving over 121,000 beneficiaries. “Currently, only 11 are operational. As more SPPGs are launched, demand for milkfish will increase,” Riza said.
