“We have requested the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local police to investigate this case thoroughly,” Sugiono wrote on his Instagram account @menluri on Tuesday.
He also communicated with the Indonesian Ambassador to Peru, Ricky Suhendar, and with Purba’s wife.
Sugiono instructed Ambassador Suhendar to closely monitor the progress of the investigation and to assist in the repatriation of Purba’s body to Indonesia.
“I hope we can do our utmost to ensure this case is properly investigated,” he remarked.
He further urged all personnel within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to remain patient and resilient during this difficult time, while emphasizing the importance of safety while on duty.
“Most importantly, wherever you are, always prioritize safety in fulfilling your duties and responsibilities to the nation,” Sugiono reminded.
Zetro Leonardo Purba was reported dead after being shot three times by an unidentified assailant near his residence in the Lince area of Lima, according to local media outlet Panamericana Television.
Local police confirmed that Purba had arrived in Peru five months ago to begin his assignment at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, following a previous posting at the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Melbourne.
Police and forensic teams have conducted a crime scene investigation, and the Indonesian Embassy in Lima has coordinated with the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident.
