The cat was found at a suspect’s residence and is now in the care of the Jakarta Animal Health and Livestock Services Center,Jakarta (ANTARA) - A cat belonging to celebrity and suspended lawmaker Uya Kuya is recovering at Jakarta’s Animal Health Center after being rescued from his Jakarta home following a looting on Saturday night, August 30.
“The cat is in stable condition after receiving intensive care,” said Drh. Arianto Nugroho, head of the animal health center in Ragunan, South Jakarta, on Thursday.
Veterinarians performed a full health check, including blood tests and IV treatment. Nugroho noted that the cat was initially stressed but has improved with food, vitamins, and antibiotics.
Authorities are also coordinating with East Jakarta Police regarding the welfare of other animals left in the home.
Uya Kuya, whose legal name is Surya Utama, and his wife, Astrid, visited East Jakarta Police Headquarters on Wednesday to request restorative justice for an elderly woman who returned a stolen air conditioner.
He asked that her case not proceed to trial.
Police have named six suspects in the looting of Uya’s Pondok Bambu residence in Duren Sawit. A seventh suspect was arrested Wednesday morning.
One of the cats was recovered from a suspect’s house and turned over to the city’s Food, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency for care.
“The cat was found at a suspect’s residence and is now in the care of the Jakarta Animal Health and Livestock Services Center,” said East Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dicky Fertoffan. Police are still searching for several other suspects, including the alleged ringleader.
Viral footage showed a crowd breaking down Uya’s front gate and storming the house, shouting “Destroy!” while looting property. Most suspects are local residents.
Uya later clarified that his recent dancing at the Parliament complex was unrelated to the Rp50 million housing allowance increase for lawmakers, explaining it was simply to appreciate a performing musician.
Deputy House Speaker Adies Kadir also said the lawmakers danced only after formal state speeches had ended.
Amid public protests over a housing allowance hike for lawmakers — some of which turned violent with vandalism, arson, and looting — the National Leadership Board of the National Mandate Party (PAN) suspended Uya Kuya along with Eko Hendro Purnomo (Eko Patrio) from the House of Representatives (DPR), effective Monday, September 1, 2025.
