Indonesian Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto met with Major General Lour Rabo, deputy director general of Cambodia’s Immigration Department, on Thursday to discuss ongoing concerns.
Darmosumarto thanked Cambodian authorities for supporting Indonesians in the country and pledged continued efforts to remind citizens to comply with local laws.
“The Indonesian embassy will remind nationals to adhere to Cambodian rules and regulations,” he said, according to a statement released Friday.
The Indonesian community in Cambodia has grown significantly, bringing a rise in related immigration cases. In 2024, the Indonesian Embassy handled 3,310 consular issues.
However, in just the first seven months of 2025, that number has nearly matched the previous year’s total, reaching 3,256 cases — 83 percent of which are tied to online scam crimes.

The ambassador praised Cambodia’s swift handling of deportations and its cooperation with the embassy in assisting affected Indonesians.
Darmosumarto also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to follow up on agreements from the second Indonesia-Cambodia bilateral immigration meeting held in Bali in May. A key outcome was to boost joint efforts in combating human trafficking and transnational crime.
“Indonesia is ready to strengthen its partnership with Cambodia in addressing transnational issues, including online scams, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and other organized crimes related to illegal immigration,” he said.
Hundreds of Indonesians have been arrested in recent operations targeting online scams. The embassy said it is prepared to cooperate fully with Cambodian authorities in processing deportations.
As of 2024, more than 131,000 Indonesians reside in Cambodia, the embassy reported.
