Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) on Friday announced a six-point resolution in response to the "17+8 People's Demands" raised during recent nationwide protests.

DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the resolutions reflect the parliament's commitment to a "total institutional evaluation" and were agreed upon during a consultative meeting of DPR leadership and faction heads on Thursday.

"These resolutions mark a serious step toward reform and accountability," Ahmad told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.

Also signing the agreement were DPR Speaker Puan Maharani and Deputy Speakers Saan Mustopa and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal.

The first point ends housing allowances for all DPR members effective August 31.

The second suspends all overseas working visits starting September 1, except for attending official state ceremonies.

Parliament will also cut allowances related to electricity, mobile phones, "intensive communication," and transportation.

In the fourth point, DPR agreed to revoke financial benefits for members suspended by their political parties.

The fifth resolution mandates that all suspended lawmakers will be subject to investigations coordinated between the DPR Ethics Committee and their respective party ethics boards.

Lastly, the parliament pledged to improve transparency and increase meaningful public participation in the legislative and policymaking process.

The move follows the suspension of five lawmakers by their own parties amid rising public pressure.

The suspended members include Ahmad Sahroni and Nafa Urbach of the NasDem Party; Eko Hendro Purnomo and Surya Utama (popularly known as Uya Kuya) of the National Mandate Party (PAN); and DPR Deputy Speaker Adies Kadir of the Golkar Party.

Mass protests broke out last week in several cities, calling for transparency, ethical governance, and reform within Indonesia's political institutions.
