Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian immigration authorities have deported a Moroccan national, identified as NE, who was on Morocco’s wanted list for theft, violence, and child abduction, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections said Saturday.

Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman said the deportation followed an international arrest warrant issued on May 28 and a formal request from the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

“This fugitive kept moving around to avoid detection. With strong coordination with Polri, we traced NE from Lombok and arrested him in Jakarta,” Yusman said in a statement.

According to immigration records, NE entered Indonesia on May 1, 2023, through Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, using a tourist visa. He later converted it into an investor limited stay permit (KITAS) registered to an address in East Jakarta.

NE reportedly stayed in Lombok with his two children before relocating to Jakarta on August 19. Immigration enforcement officers tracked and apprehended him the same day, Yusman added.

Following the arrest, the immigration directorate coordinated with Polri and the Moroccan Embassy in Jakarta to process the deportation. NE was expelled from Indonesia on August 21 via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

Yusman said the operation demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to fighting transnational crime and upholding international law.

“This case shows our dedication to safeguarding national security and public safety through close cooperation with both domestic and international law enforcement,” he said.
