According to him, the complexity of literacy skills will continue to develop in accordance with the changing times. To this end, libraries must adapt to ensure they are not viewed merely as places to store books.
He further said that the digital era can present opportunities, challenges, as well as threats, thereby requiring all parties engaged in literacy improvement activities, from library managers to teachers, to collaborate in creating strategies and programs that can foster the current generation's creativity.
"We must continue to make efforts to change our perspective in serving people, especially those who are tech-savvy," he said.
In this regard, Aziz emphasized that Perpusnas has provided platforms and activities in collaboration with all parties to build literacy in society.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Center for Library Analysis and Reading Culture Development of Perpusnas, Nurhadisaputra, underscored that literacy is a human right, a foundation of sustainable development, and a gateway to social justice, as well as a peaceful and inclusive society.
According to him, the theme raised by UNESCO for this year's International Literacy Day on September 8, namely "Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era", is relevant to the current era, which changes the way people think, learn, work, socialize, and understand reality.
Furthermore, the Deputy Permanent Delegate of Indonesia to UNESCO, I Gusti Agung Ketut Satrya Wibawa, stated that AI can be a tool to streamline policy acceleration or intervention to achieve the expected level of literacy.
"However, ethics and governance with a rigid and strict system for AI utilization are needed," he stressed.
