Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Manpower Minister Yassierli has called on the younger generation to prepare for future employment challenges, particularly in the field of green jobs.

He said the effort aligns with Indonesia’s Golden Indonesia 2045 vision of becoming a developed nation and one of the world's five largest economies.

"To achieve this vision, students have a crucial role and must be prepared starting now. This is a challenge we must face together," Yassierli said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The minister noted that by 2045, green jobs are expected to dominate Indonesia’s employment structure. However, many universities have yet to adapt their curricula to develop graduates with the necessary green skills.

"Green jobs are those that contribute to preserving or restoring the environment, either through specific skills, environmentally friendly processes, or the production of sustainable outputs," he explained.

He encouraged young people, especially university students, to strengthen their competencies through lifelong learning.

"The challenges of the future are unpredictable. The key is continuous learning — some things can be taught in lectures, but others must be learned independently," he said.

Yassierli also underlined the importance of vocational education in producing skilled workers able to compete in the green economy era.

"With the right policies, training, and ecosystem, Indonesia can support the transition to a green workforce while advancing sustainable development," he noted.

In August, he highlighted that the government had prepared several strategies to promote green jobs, including transforming job training centers and designing curricula in collaboration with industry players, as well as upgrading training infrastructure.
