Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) has pledged full transparency in the ethics hearings for five Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel involved in a fatal incident that killed ride-hailing driver Affan Kurniawan.

The tragedy occurred when a tactical vehicle ran over Kurniawan during a demonstration.

The five personnel under review are Second Adjunct Inspector M. Rohyani, First Brigadier Danang, Second Brigadier Mardin, Senior Patrolman Jana Edi, and Senior Patrolman Yohanes David.

On Wednesday, Head of the Public Information Bureau, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, announced that the ethics hearings would be conducted in collaboration with both internal and external oversight bodies to ensure transparency and accountability.

“We will involve internal oversight mechanisms, including the Inspectorate of General Supervision and the Internal Affairs Department, which will organize the hearings. External parties, particularly the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), will also be engaged,” he stated.

Earlier, on September 3 and 4, Polri held ethics hearings for two other Brimob personnel—Chief Brigadier Rohmad, who served as the driver, and Police Commissioner Kosmas K. Gae, the co-driver of the tactical vehicle.

During the September 3 hearing, Police Commissioner Kosmas was dismissed from his position for his role in the incident.

His conduct was deemed disgraceful, resulting in an ethical sanction.

He also received an administrative penalty in the form of special placement (patsus) for six days, from August 29 to September 3, in the Patsus Room of the Provost Bureau under Polri’s Professional and Security Division (Propam).

The hearing concluded that Kosmas had acted unprofessionally in managing the demonstration on August 28, 2025, which led to the fatality.

In the September 4 hearing, Chief Brigadier Rohmad was sanctioned with a seven-year demotion, effectively covering the remainder of his service within the National Police.

He was also placed in special detention for 20 days, from August 29 to September 17, in the Patsus Room of the Provost Bureau, Divpropam Polri.

Additionally, Rohmad received an ethical sanction for reprehensible conduct and was required to deliver a verbal apology during the hearing and submit a written apology to the National Police leadership.
