“CBP is a strategic instrument to stabilize food prices, supply, and public access,” Arief said during an inspection of a Perum Bulog warehouse in Gampong Siron, Aceh Besar, Aceh, according to a statement released in Jakarta on Friday.
He noted that CBP management by the state logistics agency Bulog follows Presidential Regulation No. 125 of 2022 on Government Food Reserves, which designates CBP as a key tool for price and supply stabilization.
“CBP must be carefully managed—not only for quantity but also quality. Rice released for market intervention, food aid, or disaster response must meet strict consumption standards,” he explained.
The regulation also provides a legal basis for Bapanas-Bulog cooperation, ensuring CBP functions as more than a stockpile—serving instead as a policy lever to stabilize prices, protect purchasing power, and curb food-related inflation.
Arief stressed that public trust depends on maintaining high-quality reserves. “With a secure stock of 3.9 million tons, it is time for Bulog to speed up rice distribution through the SPHP price-stabilization program, food assistance, and emergency response,” he said.
As of September 17, total CBP distribution this year reached 798,800 tons, including 374,800 tons under SPHP, 365,500 tons for June–July food assistance, 60,100 tons for budgeted programs, and 418 tons for emergencies.
Looking ahead, Arief confirmed that the government will continue the food assistance program through October and November, with 365,500 tons of rice to be distributed to 18,277,083 beneficiary families across Indonesia. “If needed, rice assistance may also be extended into December, based on the outcome of the government’s evaluation,” he added.
