Nasir, the father of Dafa, one of several victims, was discovered behind Paesa Camp in Benawa on September 20, Papua Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito said.
“The victim’s body was covered with arrows,” Sukarnito stated from Jayapura, Papua’s capital.
Nasir was reported missing on September 16 after his children were found injured near Paesa Camp. His car had been set on fire, and he reportedly fled the attack with his children, Dafa and Atifa.
A passing driver found the injured children along the Jayapura-Wamena route. Both suffered sharp-object wounds and were taken to Bhayangkara Hospital in Jayapura.
During a search on September 19, police found another victim, driver Muhamad Rusli, but not Nasir. His body was recovered during a second sweep the following day and taken to Elelim.
Authorities plan to transfer his remains to Sentani, then fly him to Makassar for burial. Timing depends on conditions in Elelim, Sukarnito said.
The unrest began on September 16 after a student dispute escalated into attacks and arson, damaging public property and vehicles in Elelim, the district capital.
Jayapura’s Bhayangkara Hospital Chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dr. Rommy Sebastian, said eight victims, including an infant and two children, are recovering.
“Patients arrived in waves. The last group, two children, came in Wednesday night,” Rommy said.
The injured include Eisrahmawati (23), Tasya (22), Yanti (50), Ema (33), Efelin (7 months), Atifah Muthasaddika (8), Rudi Saranga (36), and Arsyaka Daffa Abdori (9).
From Jakarta, Army Spokesman Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana said the situation in Yalimo has stabilized after the initial student dispute.
“The issue started small but escalated due to poor communication. It’s under control now,” he said at the 2025 TNI Fair in Jakarta.
He confirmed injured army personnel are recovering and stressed that military support remains within legal bounds, only assisting when requested by local authorities.
