"We are particularly encouraged by a joint venture in renewable energy, an area of great promise as both nations transition toward a green future," Nasaruddin said when delivering remarks, representing President Prabowo Subianto, at the celebration of Saudi Arabia's 95th National Day, here on Tuesday.
"Our collaboration in educational and scholarship exchanges is another precursor," the minister said.
He said that both countries have rich natural resources. Hence, Indonesia wants to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy, as part of sustainable practices to utilize natural resources while preserving them.
In the field of education, many Indonesian students have pursued advanced studies at Saudi universities, while Saudi students are welcomed in Indonesian Islamic and scholarly institutions.
Therefore, Indonesia continues to encourage further cooperation in education, especially in student exchanges between the two countries.
Besides renewable energy and education, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, Nasaruddin said, also have a deep commitment to peace and stability, not only in their respective regions but across the Muslim world.
In terms of people-to-people contacts, President Prabowo, in his message delivered by the minister, also stated that for the Indonesian people, Saudi Arabia held a place of unique reference.
"Pilgrims who have performed Hajj or Umrah are honored with affection and respect. This is not merely tourism, it is a sacred aspiration that paints our society in an unbreakable spiritual embrace. The connection gives our diplomacy a special warmth," he said.
Looking ahead, Prabowo sees great potential for new forms of partnership to strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
In addition, Indonesia also welcomes Saudi Arabia's increased participation in infrastructure projects, halal industry development, and the digital economy.
Hence, Indonesia encourages collaboration in promoting Islamic finance to create global standards for ethical and sharia-compliant financial services.
In the tourism sector, the potential for cooperation is also considered promising, as Indonesians want to visit the Kingdom, while many Saudi Arabian tourists also discover the natural beauty and cultural richness of Indonesia.
Indonesia also wants to expand cooperation on climate action in line with the challenges of global warming currently faced by the global community.
Indonesia also wants to work with Saudi Arabia in campaigning for education for women and youth, fighting violence and extremism, and promoting scientific research based on ethical values.
"This effort will show the world that the Muslim country is vibrant, forward-looking and dedicated to the common good," Nasaruddin said.
Besides the Minister of Religious Affairs, the celebration was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, and representatives of other ministries from the Red and White Cabinet.
The celebration was also attended by a number of ambassadors from friendly countries, such as Palestine, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, England, Japan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Syria, the Vatican, and others.
