Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon stated that the 2025 Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) serves not only as a marketplace for books but also as a platform for cultural diplomacy through literary works.

"IIBF 2025 is more than just a book fair. It is a platform for cultural diplomacy, a meeting point for ideas, and a celebration of literature in all its forms," Minister Zon said during the opening of IIBF 2025 here on Wednesday.

The event brings together stakeholders across the publishing ecosystem, from publishers to readers from around the globe.

It can be used as a way to promote Indonesia’s cultural identity through the diverse stories shared in books, while also increasing Indonesians' literacy.

Minister Zon underlined the importance of books as instruments for shaping the nation’s future, especially in the digital age where information is widespread yet often distracting.

He encouraged mindful reading and meaningful writing to produce visionary and quality content that enriches insight and builds character.

"We have a responsibility to advance Indonesian culture amid the global civilization. Language, literature, and authors’ works are integral parts of our cultural heritage," he stated.

To further promote Indonesian literature worldwide, the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI) is collaborating with the National Talent Management (MTN) for Arts and Culture.

One of the initiatives is the IRF Fellowship, which invites 22 international publishers and agents to explore translation rights for Indonesian books.

Additionally, the MTN Translation Funding Program was launched to support foreign publishers translating Indonesian works, aiming to broaden global appreciation of the nation’s literary wisdom.

IIBF 2025 is being held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) from September 24-28, featuring 125 exhibitors from 20 countries and 150 literacy programs.
