Prabowo arrived at Rideau Hall, the governor general’s historic residence, where he was greeted by Ken MacKillop, secretary to the governor general, before holding a high-level meeting with Simon in the Large Drawing Room.
In a statement Thursday, Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretariat described the reception as a sign of "Canada's highest regard for Indonesia." It noted that despite the brief nature of Prabowo's visit, Simon received him in person — a gesture seen as a mark of respect for Indonesia's close diplomatic ties with Canada.
During their talks, Prabowo and Simon highlighted shared values of democracy, pluralism, and multiculturalism, which they said form the foundation of a growing bilateral partnership. They also underscored the importance of expanding people-to-people connections, which could open new opportunities in trade, education, and cultural exchange.
Prabowo stressed the need to broaden cooperation in line with both countries' shared goals of sustainable development and inclusive prosperity. The discussion, officials said, reaffirmed Indonesia and Canada's commitment to working together on global challenges.
Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. After the meeting, he continued his Ottawa agenda with a one-on-one session with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at Parliament Hill.
