Speaking at the Galeri PJTT UT & UIGM National Meeting 2025 at Universitas Terbuka in South Tangerang, Nezar Patria said universities hold a strategic role in driving digital transformation as hubs of innovation and talent development.
“AI can serve as a vital partner in research and innovation, while also helping to address academic challenges,” Nezar said in an official statement on Thursday.
He said AI could enhance personalized learning through intelligent tutoring systems, improve assessment by delivering data-driven feedback, and strengthen institutional quality with student profiling and predictive analytics.
But he cautioned that adoption carries risks such as algorithmic bias, data hallucination and misuse in academic work.

Nezar also cited infrastructure gaps, limited internet access and a shortage of skilled workers as barriers that must be overcome to maximize AI’s potential in education.
Indonesia will need at least nine million digital talents by 2030, he said, adding that universities must take a lead role in producing skilled and ethical AI professionals.
“Universities have a significant role to play in cultivating high-quality, ethical AI experts,” Nezar said.
He added that the government is finalizing a National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap to guide policy and regulation, ensuring alignment with human rights, ethics and sustainability.
“We hope this roadmap will soon be formalized into regulation, so Indonesia will have a clear direction for developing and adopting AI responsibly,” he said.
