New York (ANTARA) - The Republic of Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing global financial health, which Foreign Minister Sugiono described as key to building community resilience.

Speaking during the High-Level Breakfast Meeting on Advancing Financial Health, held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly on Thursday, Minister Sugiono highlighted the critical role of financial health in achieving sustainable development goals.

Financial health is key to building resilience, Sugiono stated, while noting Indonesia’s progress in financial literacy, which rose to 49.7 percent in 2023, while also recognizing continuing challenges such as low household savings.

Sugiono also highlighted Indonesia’s success in expanding financial inclusion, with adult account ownership reaching 85 percent in 2021, up from 35 percent in 2011, supported by digital finance.

However, Sugiono emphasized that financial inclusion must evolve into real financial health—ensuring usage, resilience, and empowerment.

Indonesia welcomed the recognition of financial health in the Compromiso de Sevilla and expressed readiness to integrate financial health into future UN resolutions, including the 2025 Biennial Resolution on Financial Inclusion.

The Compromiso de Sevilla is the outcome document of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain, from 30 June to 3 July 2025. Its main objective is to reduce the development financing gap for developing countries.

On the proposed Group of Friends on Financial Health, Indonesia called for the platform to deliver tangible benefits, particularly for the Global South, and to complement other initiatives to ensure coherence.

“Indonesia looks forward to contributing actively to these efforts,” Sugiono concluded.

The high-level meeting was chaired by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA), Her Majesty Queen Maxima.

During the meeting, Minister Sugiono congratulated Queen Maxima on her renewed mandate as the UNSGSA and looked forward to welcoming her in Jakarta on November 2025.

Delegations from Jamaica, Singapore, the Philippines, Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil, Jordan, and the Netherlands also participated in the discussions.
